How much does Part 107 cost?
Understand the main costs associated with getting and using an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, including testing, registration, and recurrent training.
There is no single all-in FAA Part 107 price. First-time applicants pay the testing-provider fee for the UAG knowledge test. Part 107 drone registration is $5 per drone for three years, while FAA recurrent training is available online at no cost. Third-party test-prep products are separate and optional.
The initial knowledge test has a testing fee
First-time applicants who are not using the eligible Part 61 pathway must take the FAA Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG) knowledge test at an approved testing center. The FAA describes the initial test as fee-required; the current appointment price is set through the testing service, so verify the live amount when scheduling.
Part 107 drone registration is separate
For Part 107 operations, the FAA currently charges $5 to register each drone, and that registration is valid for three years. Registration is not the same as earning a Remote Pilot Certificate.
- Knowledge-test fee: charged through the FAA testing provider
- Part 107 registration: $5 per drone for three years
- FAA recurrent training: no cost
- Independent test prep: optional and priced separately
Budget for certification and for operating legally
A useful budget separates certification from aircraft compliance. After certification, operators may still have costs for aircraft registration, Remote ID compliance, insurance, equipment, software, local business requirements, or specialized operating approvals depending on the mission.
